Prominent among the medieval capitals in India in the richness of its architecture, is the royal capital at Amer, once the seat of the Kachhawaha Rajput rulers of Jaipur State. The town is located strategically in the valley between two ranges of the Aravalli near Jaipur in Rajasthan and was founded as early as A.D. 928. The majestic grouping of the imperial buildings constituting the Palace complex is situated on top of a hill around a lake occupying the central location in the settlement.
